Calabar Alumni and Friends Association Scholarship Program 2018/19

On 12 September 2018 Calabar Alumni and Friends Association UK awarded 20 scholarships to the value of up to $100, 000. 00 Jamaican dollars to deserving students at the inaugural Calabar Alumni Founders’ Day Scholarship Program launch event.

The event was spearheaded by Mr Dave Thomas, Calabar Alumni Association UK President, who travelled to Jamaica to present the scholarships.

Also in attendance was Major Evrol Dixon, who delivered the keynote address and Miss Andrea Thomas who was the Compare.

The event was also attended by Mrs Karen Francis (Principal – Westwood High School), Mr Calvin Rowe (Acting Principal of Calabar High School), Dr David Anderson from the COBA Atlanta Chapter, Mr Geddes Alexander from Sons of Rabalac, The Martin Family, as well as past teachers (most notably, Mrs Hall, Mr Perry), Alumni (notably Class of 1991), parents and well-wishers. Hospitality was provided by Lindsey’s Juice Blends, owned by a Calabar Alumnus.

The Calabar Alumni and Friends Association UK collaborated with several global Calabar alumni Chapters (COBA Atlanta, Sons of Rabalac, Sons of Herb McKinley), charitable foundations (The Thomas Foundation and Bernice and Cecil McGowan Foundation) and notable alumni to award a total of 35 scholarships on the day.

Among this cohort, a total of 16 scholarships were awarded to current students of Calabar High School. Additionally, two scholarships were awarded to immediate past students of Calabar High who were transitioning to university. Equally, we extended our relief efforts to two students from our sister school Westwood High.
